Thank you to the St. Andrew’s School Community
Posted on September 25th, 2018
In times of strife, we must come together to maintain the strong bonds that exist in our schools. St. Andrew’s School has done that this week. When faced with a threat to student safety yesterday, they supported each other and overcame obstacles together. We understand that re-entering a school after a threat to safety has been made takes bravery, but we must trust our experts, our local RCMP officers, and respect the privacy of all involved. Our division relies heavily on their expertise and we are very grateful for their prompt response. The investigation is ongoing and we pray that the RCMP officers will make decisions that are in the best interests of our communities. We thank the RCMP officers for their hard work in the early hours of Monday morning to ensure that the school was safe to open yesterday morning. Our division understands what has taken place and is responding to this situation according to division procedures for student conduct and discipline.
St. Andrew’s School administration met with grades 4-12 students yesterday to discuss the nature of the concern and to discuss the implications of what we say on social media. Administration explained the importance of good communication, and the importance of living in harmony with our neighbours. As a school family, students and staff are expected to care for each other and communicate respectfully. Administration also reinforced the consequences of writing in anger on social media, and the dangers they could be exposing themselves to.
We thank St. Andrew’s School staff for their continued commitment to student safety and for taking good care of students. All staff reacted calmly, professionally and with great care. Thank you all for your continued commitment to student safety. It takes a village to raise a child and St. Andrew’s School staff members are an important part of that village.
We thank parents for their trust in St. Andrew’s School and in the RCMP. Thank you for trusting us with your most precious resource, your children.
